Movie Review : Sitaare Zameen Par

Sitaare Zameen Par Review

Sitaare Zameen Par: A heartwarming saga that will melt your heart

#SitaareZameenPar, touted as a comeback of #AamirKhan after #LaalSinghChaddha, is not a sequel to its predecessor, #TaareZameenPar, but rather a standalone movie. However, this movie also deals with intellectually challenged individuals.

“Sitaare Zameen Par” is a remake of Spanish movie #Champions, but the writer #DivyNidhiSharma Indianized the story and gives a heart-warming saga of a basketball coach Gulshan Arora, whose life changes when he is asked to coach a bunch of intellectually challenged individuals for a basketball tournament for 3 months, as a punishment for drink and drive. Please be warned that if you are comparing this movie to “Taare Zameen Par,” then you will be in for a disappointment, as this movie is more candyfloss and fluffy rather than its predecessor, which was more intense and emotional. Though this movie also has its emotional moments but overall, it’s a light-hearted movie which brought a smile to my face.

Performance-wise, the 8 kids, #AroushDatta as Satbir, #GopiKrishnanVarma as Guddu, #VedantSharmaa as Bantu, #NamanMisra asSitaare Zameen Par Hargovind,  #RishiShahani as Sharmaji,  #RishabhJain as Raju, #SamvitDesai as Karim Qureshi, #SimranMangeshkar as Golu Khan and #AayushBhansali as Lotus steal your heart from the word go, they are so good that you tend to overlook the other actors in the frame when they are there. Another crackling performance is that of #DollyAhluwalia as Preeto, Gulshan’s mother; she is a delight to watch in a brief role; every time she was on screen, she made me smile. Another actor who shines in the movie is #GurpalSingh as Kartar Paaji, the principal of the school, he brought the maturity in the role which was needed in this candy floss drama. #GeneliaDeshmukh as Sunita, Gulshan’s wife, though in a brief role brings the freshness which was needed to balance the storyline.

Coming to the star of the movie, #AamirKhan as Gulshan Arora, the arrogant and self-obsessed coach, somehow, I thought was the weakest link in the movie, you can see he was trying very hard however it seemed more make believe than natural, unfortunately in this movie Aamir got overshadowed by the support caste. #BrijendraKala as Daulat ji was wasted. The rest of the cast were also good.

The music by #ShankarEhsaanLoy is very average, and you come out without any memory of any song. Cinematography by #GSrinivasReddy is as per the theme of the movie, with lots of colors.

The real star of the movie is the director #RSPrasanna, he earlier impressed us with #SubhMangalSaavdhan, and this being his second outing in Hindi films, he hits the bull’s eye. It was not an easy movie to make, getting the intellectually challenged kids to act the way they did is commendable. Though the run time is 158 minutes but you never felt bored even for a second.

People may argue with me, saying that he copied the original movie frame by frame, but to be very honest, how many people have seen the original Spanish movie, and how many remakes in the recent past have done actual justice to its original. R.S. Prasanna did justice by Indianizing the story and adapting it well for the Hindi audience.

After a long time, I felt so happy watching a movie in a theatre with the audience laughing and clapping and which also gave a community experience. The movie is from the heart, and it will make you smile throughout. At least I had a smile on my face long after the movie was over. I will go with 4 Stars.
